Jazz trade Maynor to Thunder

by Mike Harris on December 22, 2009

Here’s a news item from the Salt Lake City paper that will interest VCU fans (among others):  Eric Maynor has been traded from the Utah Jazz to the Oklahoma City Thunder.   Not sure I understand the whole deal – it involves players who have never played and players who won’t play for their new teams.  One thing is clear: The 2008 and 2009 CAA player of the year is changing teams.  Maynor was picked 20th in the 2009 draft and was contributing a lot to the Jazz in his rookie season.  I’m eager to read more and get the reasoning behind the deal.

One interesting item:  Maynor will be in D.C. in one week as the Thunder plays the Wizards on Dec. 29.  Unfortunately, VCU is also home that night against East Carolina, so Rams fans will have to give up a game to go see Maynor at the closest NBA venue.  There are other options within reasonable driving distance.   The Thunder plays in Charlotte on March 17. Oklahoma City will be in Philadelphia on March 30

Utah doesn’t play in Washington until March 27.

Oklahoma City is in Los Angeles tonight and in Phoenix tomorrow.  Maynor will likely join the team there.

Utah visits Oklahoma City on Dec. 31.  That ought to be an interesting game.
